We can apply the rules of opposites to the elements. In this way each
element forms a pair.
Even element is listed in pairs. Normally one side is stronger then the
other. One side does not remove ability from the side. The stronger
side however will lesson the influence of the weaker side.
That means you can increase your ability to influence and experience both
sides of the equation. In some instances it will be possible to change
which side is stronger or weaker. In this case you will experience
increased or decreased perceptions based on the element on question.
The most obvious pair should be creation and destruction. One creates
and the other destroys.
Destruction -------------- Creation
The second set is substance and energy. It could be called earth and
fire. To demonstrate this we can look at a glass of water. If we add
energy in some form the water will boil and form a mist. If we remove the
energy the water will freeze and form a block of ice.
Substance ------------ Energy
The third set is distance and time. Distance goes in one
direction. Time goes in two directions.
Distance -------------- Time
The fourth set is area and flexibility. These two are all about
focus. Area is about the mind focus internally. Flexibility is water
and emotions. This is an external focus.
Area ------------------- Flexibility
These paths can be taken advantage of in meditation. If you
meditate on your stronger element you can cross over to the other. This
will increase the strength of the second meditation on the other side of the
path.
We can combine the four paths mentioned into two distinct crosses. The
first cross is the cross of creation. With the cross of creation it is
possible to take energy and create substance with it. We can take
substance and create the energy to move as well. With destruction we can
remove any other piece from the equation.
